Named after the early 16th-century Portuguese navigator António de Saldanha, the bay is both larger and safer than Table Bay, which is located 65 miles (105 km) farther south-southeast. WebThe Construction of the two Harbour basins took place between 1860 and 1920, and the Area is notable for its outstanding Heritage Buildings. THE FORESHORE Work started in 1938 and was completed in 1945, after being delayed by the Second World War. A 230ha tract of Foreshore Land was created in the process for City expansion.
