New rear main seal leaking
Web9 jun. 2024 · Rear main seal keep leaking, second attempt. I know this has been widely talked about, but I am really struggling to fix the glitch. I have a 1992 mustang with a 347 stroker. I had recently replaced the rear main seal when the engine was out when I was doing engine bay cleanup. The problem is she continues to slowly drip oil. Web16 feb. 2006 · The rear main seal has started to leak a little bit. I have talked to my mechanic about this and he has told me and others that this is a common problem once they hit 100,000 miles or so ( I'm @ 115,000 ). He also tells me replacing the seal is pretty much a lost cause because it will start leaking again in a short time.

The first seal was replaced with 10 miles on the motor. Approximately a year ago I replaced the oil pressure sender and the front main seal, because both were leaking. That, and upgrading to the 2006 PCV system reduced the amount of oil it goes through, but it's still a lot. Bulletin states to remove the housing and inspect the mating surfaces of both for porosity. If there is porosity, replaced the gasket, housing and rear main seal.

Because the leak started after 400 miles I wonder if high oil or crankcase pressure is causing the oil to leak from the back of the oil pan gasket. I say this because I changed a few things.
