For example if my routers default gateway is 192.168.0.1 set the switches IP to 192.168.0.2 before disabling DHCP. WebTLDR; Modem communicates using TCP/IP (Packet). The switch communicates with the router using frames that the router encapsulates into a packet to send out of the network.
