Your '99 originally had 2- 8990 ball bearings. The rear ball bearing failed because the rear cam carries almost double the load that the front does. WebNov 25, 2013 · Today I replaced the old style cam set up with a Screamin' Eagle 25284-08 Billet Hybrid Cam Plate. I did this so I could keep the present chain drive TW21's. I found the instructions a bit unclear. My questions are as follows: The old rear cam sprocket had a spacer and a shim behind it. The new set up required purchace of a bag of new spacers.

You will reuse the cams or at least the sprockets and the inner chain (silent chain). If you up-grade the cams, make sure they are for the '99-'06 configuration. You will have to remove the sprockets from the current cams and press them on the new cams.

The sprockets for the early cams are not compatible with the roller chains. The only option would have been the 25282-11 kit which requires conversion cams.
