I know the i3 is 2 GHz with no Turbo Boost, and the i5 is 2.3 GHz with turbo boost to 2.9 GHz. I plan to dual boot Gallium and Chrome OS, with Crouton installed in Chrome OS. WebAGparts does board level repair for $100 per board. You do have to pay to ship them there, and they want it to be a minimum of 10 boards per order. but if they can't fix you don't pay anything. I looked locally and haven't found anyone doing comparable work. For boards that have 3-4 years of google support left in them i'd say it's worth the cost.
