Chignall St James is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Chignall, in the Chelmsford district in Essex, England. The village is situated 3½ miles northwest by west from the county town of Chelmsford. In 1881 the parish had a population of 224. On 24 March 1888 the parish was abolished to form Chignall, parts also went to Broomfield and Writtle. The spelling of the village name is open to discussion.
